"Green" Fundraising Event for The Works Glassblowing Studio

Newark, NJ — The Works was so crowded Saturday night that the doors were propped open to let cool air in — a welcome change from the frigid temperatures of late. Saturday marked the ninth annual Cocktails by the Fire fundraiser. The event, which features drinks, food, art, music and local wares, raises money for The Works’ glassblowing studio. The theme this year was “The Green Revolution” and focused on sustainable, local living. There was a gallery of recycled art and local retailers selling eco-friendly goods — furniture made of recycled pallets, for example, and vintage, “already enjoyed” jewelry, said Samantha Harris, The Works marketing director.  www.fundraising-ideas.org 

Free Throws for Full Court Peace Fundraiser

New Canaan, CT - New Canaan High School boys basketball coach Mike Evans hosted the charity fundraiser Free Throws for Full Court Peace Sunday at the school.  The event was for boys and girls in grades three to eight, and each participant threw 100 free throws. Friends and family sponsored the kids so they could raise money for the organization.  Full Court Peace is a nonprofit organization that uses basketball as a unifier in places such as Belfast, Northern Ireland; Havana, Cuba; and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  www.fundraising-ideas.org

Human Popsicle Fundraising Event

McAlester, OK  — On Saturday, local radio personality Kevin Dean came down from the roof of a local western wear store at 10 a.m. during his 10^th — and last —Human Popsicle fundraising event just after reaching his goal of $10,000. Dean said temperatures dropped as low as 30 degrees Saturday morning. Dean said in a previous interview with the News-Capital that he would not come down until he reached his goal of $10,000 even if it took days. Although it did not take days, he did spend the night atop the store. Dean started the event at 6 a.m. Friday morning and spent nearly 28 hours there.  There was live entertainment by local artists and a live broadcast. There were Human Popsicle 10th Anniversary t-shirts given to those who gave $20 or more. Donors were asked to put their donations in a bucket that Dean would lower by rope and pull back up.  Dean said this year is his final year due to his health. Every year, Dean changes his charity of choice. This year all donations are going to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  www.fundraising-ideas.org 

Sweets and Songs Fundraiser for Student Trip to D.C.

Columbia, TN - Culleoka Music Department’s 4th annual Sweets and Songs will take place in the school auditorium. The event will feature Eclipse, the 19-member traveling show choir made up of high school and middle school students, NXS, the 19-member high school choir, Showdown, the 25-member middle school choir and the Blue Knights, the 25-member highly disciplined precision-silent drill team.  General admission tickets for Sweets and Songs are $10 and can be purchased through any choir member or at each night’s performance. At intermission everyone will be treated to dessert and punch.  Proceeds will go to help raise the $35,000 needed for Eclipse & the Blue Knights to perform at the 10^th anniversary off WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.  www.fundraising-ideas.org 

British Red Cross Fundraiser for Daredevils

Humane Society Fundraiser to Pay Vet Bills

Laurinburg, NC — The Scotland County Humane Society will hold a fundraising event in two weeks that its directors hope will become the annual centerpiece in their fight to save lives.  Money raised at “Wine and Ales for Waggin’ Tales,” an invitation-only event, will go towards repayment of veterinary bills incurred during the treatment of sheltered animals.  “We’re trying to save as many animals as we can,” said Kathy Murphy, who serves on the society’s board of directors. “We know that we need fundraisers because we have so many vet bills.” Selections for beer and wine connoisseurs will abound as the committee plans to offer stock not found on every grocery store shelf.  There will also be heavy hors d’oeuvres and a jazz performance by Ray Codrington and a jazz ensemble.
