Divide, CO - An election will be held in the tiny Teller County, Colorado town of Divide on Tuesday to elect a new mayor. This year there are eleven candidates running and each of them truly 'gives a crap' about their community.  At least, that's what the slogan for this year's election is: 'Candidates who really give a crap'.  It makes perfect sense, seeing as how each candidate is an animal.  Some of the candidates are dogs, others are cats. There's a wolf running – even a hedgehog.  The election is actually a fundraiser, being held by the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter; it's the only no-kill shelter in Teller County.  Each vote costs a dollar and every dollar goes to the shelter.  www.fundraisingweb.org

Handshake Across the Hudson World Record Fundraiser

Poughkeepsie, NY — The Walkway Over the Hudson organization kicked off a drive Tuesday to break another Guinness World Record in which as many as 3,000 people would shake hands in sequence from one end of the Walkway to the other.  At a press conference at the Walkway park’s western entrance, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro shook hands to officially commence the 3rd Annual World Record attempt and begin signing up the thousands of participants that will be needed to make the June 1 event a success. Organizers hope the event – “Handshake Across the Hudson” – will result in a line of participants stretching over a mile long at Walkway State Historic Park.  www.fundraisingweb.org

Spring Fling Fundraiser

Ahwatukee, AZ - Horizon Community Learning Center will be hosting its annual Spring Fling tonight, offering a fun-filled evening for its school families and the entire Ahwatukee community. During the festival, there will be multiple “carnival-themed” attractions ranging from a zip line, bounce houses to a dunk tank. School officials are estimating about 1,500 to 2,000 people will attend, and that the event should gross $30,000. Concession stands will be scattered throughout the Spring Fling, which will be managed by different school clubs. Proceeds generated by the different booths will go directly toward those clubs, athletics and committees for any additional amenities they will need throughout the remainder and upcoming school year. Wheelchair Basketball Fundraiser

Lowell, MA - The UMass Lowell athletic department teamed up with the Physical Therapy Club on campus to host a basketball fundraiser for the New England Blazers, a local professional wheelchair basketball team.  The event raised approximately $1,000 to help the Blazers pay for their travel expenses within and outside the New England area. The event also promoted awareness for individuals with disabilities.  Student-Athletes from various UMass Lowell athletic teams, and members of the Physical Therapy club got in their own wheelchairs and split playing time against the Blazers at the Campus Recreation Center.  www.fundraisingweb.org

Live Game Show Fundraiser

La Crosse, WI - La Crosse-area residents can support Riverfront, Inc. on April 11 by attending the organization’s first-ever live game show.  Game On! is a fundraising opportunity for Riverfront’s Innovation Fund, which is used to enhance the organization’s services.  The money provides the financial resources for the nonprofit to establish new projects, programs, equipment and supplies to its clients. Riverfront offers about 20 different programs to disabled people in eight different locations throughout the area.  Game On! will feature eight teams of four people that will compete for the chance to win up to $1,500 for the school special education program of their choice. Chili Cook-off Fundraising Event

Antioch, IL - Daringly testing their palate to choose the winner of the United Methodist Church of Antioch’s Chili Cook-off last Saturday were more than 100 parishioners and guests.  Each tried a scoop of 10 different chili recipes that included one made with venison meat, a gluten-free chili and another that second-year contestant Mike Lapke of Antioch called “not your ordinary chili,” that was made with pumpkin bits.  Folks who attended the event, which is a fundraiser for the reconditioning of the church’s Fellowship Hall, also got to bid on a silent auction with themed baskets filled with gift certificates and items such as basketballs, toys and pasta jars.
